How it All Started
This site started life sometime back in 2001 when I was made redundant from my job and grew from a need to occupy myself and learn something new at the time.
Over time it grew to what you see before you now and as my interests have moved on and time has become taken up with these other interests, etc., the site has not progressed as I had intended but hopefully I will revisit it in the mot too distant future
Over the years technology has moved on and nowadays we have Social Media sites, like Facebook and others, and these have taken over in spreading information and as you can see, some of the items in the "PC & Techy" section have been overtaken.
These days one does a Google Search for anything and everything and the answers are immediate and current!
I'm not sure where this site will go in time; it might just vanish into the ether but it was good, for me as a learning platform anyway, over time, and now there are so many tools to help one put a site together whereas I used a text editor and good old fashioned HTML code and had the odd bit of help from the lad!
It was good whilst it lasted!!
Nowadays, it's much easier for people to create a web site using free options like Google Sites and I have used that in more recent times to create a few sites; Spital Bowls Club (although I no longer maintain this site & it needs modernising by converting to New Google Sites; Tamworth Friendship Centre which I did recently update, and more recently, created a site for our Surgery's PPG (Patient Participation Group).
The New Google Sites is a more modern site with cleaner lines. It's probable easier for new people to create a site from scratch and see just what it will look like. With the old version I used to go to the HTML code to achieve the layout I was looking for and the new version has a few more restrictions or constrictions, but once you get used to it it's OK. I'm getting used to it! Few more sites and it should be easier!!
An advantage of Google Sites if your group is non profit making, and/or funds are tight, Google Sites is free which can help in the early stages.
