"The York Road Street Saga" - as told to Uncle Tony E'Benn

Way back in September 1981, we started a Newsletter at York Rd with the intention of keeping the workforce informed as there seemed to be a void in communications up to then.  This started as a single A4 sheet produced on my own personal Computer, a BBC Model B using the Acorn View Wordprocessor and printed out on an Epson dot matrix printer. It then progressed through the stages of monotyped A4 pages through to an A3 sized full colour publication until its demise in early 1990s, 1992 I believe without checking through my archives.  And sad to say, I have (almost) every single copy produced!

As it progressed we had amongst us a writer of short stories, and these became known as "The York Road Street Saga - as told to Uncle Tony E'Benn". These stories were much sought after by all, including the management, who for some reason seemed to be able to associate the characters in the stories with themselves!  Strange that as all characters within these stories were ficticious and hence any association was in the mind of the beholder!

I have unearthed these collector's pieces, scanned them in and posted them up on the site for all to share.  If you know anyone that might like to read these through again, then by all means point them to this page!

Part 30 - The Final Part, written after Uncle Tony E'Benn's retirement & whilst in exile, has just turned up and is now on line.  this was accompanied by a letter which it's hoped will appear once typed up!

We had a few cartoonists that would contribute too, with Kevin O'Rourke initially and Bart in the later years with a few choice ones from John Chance.  I might even have a few of these I could scan and post up somewhere in the ether if people would like to see them.  See what feedback I get!
